Give the best wedding speech…while still being scared to death !

Okay, the day is coming and you have to give a wedding speech. Next to death public speaking is the only other thing you may fear. And lets face it, how often do you give speeches ! Thoughts of movies like the Wedding Singer may come to mind. Everyone under the sun has also gave you bits of info. So it’s safe to say you’re head is spinning ! But fear not , there are some advantages that you have.

For one lets get old fashioned and pull out a notepad. But down the pda. If you are giving a wedding speech then you must know something about the bride or groom. And if you’re not family then you are intimate with them. So right off the back you are working from a position of power. And knowing this should give you some confidence. This knowledge should be the backbone in building that speech. Bet that sheet feels like hundred pounds now !

Even though you know the bride and groom you don’t want to let everyone in on their worst moments. Lets leave out the late night drinking binges or drag racing on the city streets. Instead highlight the parts that show just how great a guy or girl they are. Your words could sway some holdovers who still may not like one of the wedding party. Trust me it happens.

Furthermore this speech should be short and sweet. A liquored up version is not advised. Think back to those movies. Remember that good old notepad. Write down a few more clever remarks that includes everyone that counts. Say it and sit down. Uncle John is itching to get back to the bartender !

Wedding Speeches – Ten Top Tips on What not to Say or Do

1.	Don’t tell mother-in law jokes. There will usually be one or two mother-in-laws present and you could spoil the day by offending them. You never know what people will consider funny so it’s safer not to tell such jokes.

2.	Never tell smutty or rude stories. Take a warning from the photographer who caught on video the father of the bride thumping the best man because he had spoiled his daughter’s wedding by giving a blue speech. The bride was crying in the background. Smutty stories are not suitable for an occasion where there is mixed company particularly on a day when people are particularly sensitive. Besides there may be clergy present or elderly people who would be shocked.

3.	Forget the groom’s unsavoury past. Best men are often tempted to tell stories about what the groom has done in his wicked past. It might offend the bride though and it is safer to mention some incident where he lost your luggage on vacation or knocked you out in a friendly football match rather then mentioning his success with other women.

4.	Never thank the hotel staff. They are paid to do this job and you don’t thank the florist the chauffeur or the photographer for doing their work. If they do a good job send a letter of thanks or recommend a particularly helpful employee to the management if you wish.

5.	Don’t give away family secrets by mentioning a sore subject like alcoholism or gambling. Weddings speeches should be gracious and positive.

6.	Never talk about previous marriages. This is a new start for the couple and past marriages should not be mentioned. If the children of a previous marriage will be present check with the couple whether or not they should be mentioned.

7.	Forget saying “And now I wish to thank” and then give a long list. If there are people to be mentioned they should be woven into the wedding speech by saying something warm-hearted or witty about them.

8.	Never say something that someone else will be saying. The father of the bride traditionally toasts the couple for instance. If you are acting as best man or speaking in another capacity you should check it with the couple as to who is giving the toast to the bride ad groom.

9.	Always check before mentioning a deceased family member. Some people might find it too sorrowful for you to do so on what should be a happy day.

10.	Don’t go on too long. A good wedding speech is about content not length.

Remember a speech should be short

Leave them longing for more

So cut it short

They’ll be shouting “Encore”.

3 Steps for Writing a Memorable Wedding Speech

Have you recently been graced with the opportunity to give a wedding speech?

If so, let me be the first to say congratulations!

But if you’re like me, than you might be a bit nervous about the big day. Speaking in front of hundreds of your friends and family can give anyone butterflies.

But don’t worry, you’ve come to the right place. In this article I’m going to show you three tips on how to write and deliver a killer speech.

1. One of the first things I like to do in a wedding speech is to tell a story. For example, if you’re giving a maid of honor speech, you could tell a story about how you first met the bride.

If you were the father of the bride, you could tell a story about when you first met the groom and how you had never seen your daughter so happy.

Stories can instantly personalize your wedding speech and connect with your audience. Humor can also be a great addition to any speech. Just make sure you don’t embarrass the bride, the groom, or any of the wedding guests.

2. Practice. Practice. Practice. Like they said in school, practice really does make perfect. Write your speech 2 to 3 weeks before the wedding so you’ll have plenty of time to practice and rehearse your speech in front of friends and family. Practice is what’s going to give you unstoppable confidence when the wedding day finally rolls around.

3. Have Fun! Above all, remember to have fun.

Wedding Speech Ideas to Knock ‘em Dead

If you’re having some trouble writing your wedding speech, what would you say if I told you that you were being too hard on yourself? Writing a wedding speech is easy stuff, especially when you know exactly what you’re supposed to be talking about and what you should be saying.

Out of ideas? Here are a few things that should help you write your speech and make it a great one!

Show Your Gratitude

Let the bride/groom know that you appreciate them having you be a part of their wedding, or just for being invited for that matter.

Share Stories of the Bride/Groom

Think of things to say about them, funny or emotional. You know their personality and their tastes. Make it a perfect fit for them.

Be Respectful

Don’t say anything that will cross the line. If you think something might sound inappropriate, it most likely is. Try to keep the attendees in your mind as well.

Use Compliments When You Can

People love compliments. Who doesn’t? When someone says something nice about you, it makes you feel good. Compliment the bride on how beautiful she looks or the parents for throwing a great wedding, etc.

Try To Keep Things Relevant

Don’t let your speech be all about one side of the family or talk about things that half of the people in attendance will not understand. Try to make your speech appeal to both sides of the family, so everyone will understand you better.

Give a Toast

Give a toast to the wedding party and everyone else that you think should have one.

Tips For Wedding Speeches

It is quite normal that everyone at some point in their life will have to speak at someone’s wedding. It can be in any role, that of a father of the bride, or the best man. While the reason for being called to speak at a wedding can be anything ,it is a good idea to have a couple of good points handy that you can use when the occasion arises. While it is normal to think that the talking points are obvious, please bear in mind that it needs a bit of thick skin for public speaking.

Some key points to keep in mind while making a wedding speech are listed below.

Just because it is called a wedding speech does not mean that like some other speeches it should go on interminably. This is not an opportunity for you to display your vocabulary or impress people with your oration skills. Whatever your personal opinion about how interesting you are try to keep it short. Remember that people are there to enjoy the wedding and not to hear you speak. Five minutes should be adequate to cover whatever it is you wish to say. If you find yourself going on for longer then try to end quickly.

A bad result of long speeches is that there is the impulse to try and break the monotony with an occasional joke. Humor has its place and it usually takes a long time of practice to know how to use it effectively. Most public speakers have professional speech writers working for them, they do not do humor impromptu. Do not try to sound funny because a wedding is not a joke. However, if you are a compulsive jokester and cannot help yourself then at least try to make the jokes pertinent so that your speech does not reflect bad taste. The biggest no-no as far as humor is concerned is that you should never, ever make jokes that refer directly to the bride.

Weddings are sentimental occasions so it is alright for people to feel warm and mushy. Sharing sentimental stories is a very good idea. You can talk about how much the recently married couple are in love (if you really know about it), about your own wedding, and similar topics. These are appropriate things to say, provided you can once again maintain good taste.

The most important thing that needs to be remember when you are called upon to make a wedding speech is that you are not being called as a guest of honor or something, this is not about you and your entire effort must be for the benefit of the bride and groom, not yourself. Keep your words focused on the couple as much as possible, this is their moment, do not steal from it.

Just remember these few tips and and you will be quite alright when called upon to make a wedding speech. It helps to remember the right things to say and the nice memories to narrate. It needs but a small amount of preparation and does not need anyone to be a professional pubic speaker. You can do it.

4 Tips to Creating Killer Wedding Speeches

The inevitable wedding speech. If you play an important role in an upcoming wedding (i.e. best man, bridesmaid, etc.), you will most likely need to give some sort of speech to celebrate the joining of the bride and groom. How do you prepare? What do you say? Questions start flying through your mind as the anxiety and anticipation slowly settles in. Stop the worrying. Wedding speeches are supposed to be fun, not tough.

So, how can you calm yourself down to write a good wedding speech? Here are a few simple tips that you can use for crafting and delivering your speech, so you will be prepared on the big day!

- Create an outline to craft your speech around. This will help lay the foundation for your speech, as well as keep you focused, so you are not staying on the same subject for too long.

- Search the web for funny one-liners, inspirational or funny quotes, and other jokes. Incorporate your own jokes and quotes into your speech as well.

- When delivering your speech, make sure to stand tall and use a clear speaking voice. Be sure to acknowledge your audience by using eye contact. If you are using a microphone (which most of you probably will have), make sure that it isn’t too close to your mouth, or else a muffled sound will result. Also, try not to be too loud or too soft with your voice. Don’t put your hand over the ball of the microphone, as it can impact the sound of your voice.

- Make sure you introduce yourself and speak briefly about your relationship with the bride and groom. This will help everyone understand who you are, so people can follow along with your speech.

Follow these four tips above is just the beginning. If you apply some of these techniques, then you should be well on your way to delivering a killer speech on the big day!

Wedding Speeches – 4 Tips for Making it Great

Being selected to give a wedding speech is a great honor. However, it can also be a bit overwhelming. The thought of standing up and giving a speech in front of your friends and family is enough to give anyone butterflies. But it doesn’t have to be if you follow a few simple rules. Here are 4 steps to delivering the perfect wedding speech, regardless of whether you’re writing a maid of honor speech, a best man speech, or a father of the bride speech.

Don’t try to re-invent the wheel. There are plenty of pre-written speeches

on the Internet. Of course, you don’t want to use them as they are, but they

can act as an excellent model for crafting your own wedding speech. Take the best from each one and make your speech truly unique.

Start preparing as soon as possible. Practice is the key to delivering a great wedding speech. Whenever you think of a great story, introduction, or anecdote for your speech, be sure to write it down.

Feel free to add some humor to your wedding speech. Weddings are certainly a joyful experience, but there are also a lot of tears that will be shed. Laughter is often a much needed release that helps everyone to relax and enjoy the evening.

Wedding speeches should be heartfelt messages focused on the bride and groom.

The key to writing a great speech is to write from the heart. Write something real and you can’t go wrong. It’s not so much about “saying it right” as simply saying something meaningful.

Free Wedding Speeches, Helpful Or Dreadful?

You’re sitting in your couch watching TV on a Saturday night, minding your own business and then your Best friend calls you up, tells you he’s getting hitched and wants you to be his best man. You sweat, but can’t decline, so you end up agreeing on a toast at the wedding. After you hang up the phone, you go straight to the net and search for Free Wedding speeches.

Get the picture? Statistics have shown that more people are afraid of public speaking then they are of more common fears, and it is indeed a very fearful act, speaking in public, anything you say cannot be taken back, and if you say something bad, you’ll get foot “in” mouth disease.

But does looking for free speeches on the net really help? Most of the time you’ll find some cheap tips on how to make the perfect, speech or how to say it. Or maybe you’ll be lucky enough to find one that is already made, and you’ll just have to print it. But these speeches tend to be rather, impersonal and very general, and if you’re the best man, you’ll probably just end up boring your friends and family.

When making speeches, the simpler the better, you won’t have to depend on free wedding speeches off the net if you have memories of your friends.

What you are asked to do on a wedding toast is to tell the people something about your friends, the ones getting married, how they were meant for each other and how you wish them happiness for the rest of their lives. You don’t need a factory made, winding speech, all you need is memories, and your genuine care for your loved ones.

If you’re still having the jiggly stomach about giving your speech you can follow these free wedding speech tips, they may not be ready made but they’ll surely help.

- Forget the preaching go on with the memories

Most people give winding speeches because they tend to give “unasked advice” leave that to the marriage counselor or the pastor, just give ‘em memories. Most couples appreciate the nostalgia of a few well chosen memories. Find a funny or a touching memory you have of the couple and share it with the room, plus a few well wishes and you’re done.

- go for short but effective, rather than long and winding

Many of us know that a long speech is very boring; you don’t want to dull the night with your talks of your childhood, and your games, with your friend. A biography is for a book, one or two memories are for a wedding.

- Write a Poem

You may say that poems are for sissies but that depends on every person point of view. But a Wedding Is a very emotional moment and it’s sure that everyone is in the mood for a little emotion and tears and what more to provoke those dams to flow than a few well said lines in the form of a poem?

- Don’t forget to introduce yourself

A simple “Jade has been my friend since high school and I’ve never seen her gaga over any guy other than Andrew” Make a basis for what you’re saying, especially if you’re talking about moments in the newlywed’s life. If it was a trial, you’re the witness, and you’ll need credibility. Just imagine would people “feel” your speech if they’re don’t know who the heck you are?

How to Write That Powerful Wedding Speech

It is Saturday night and you have just sat down to watch tv, you are relaxing and your best friend gives you a call, he informs you that he is getting married and would like for you to be the best man. You may hesitate, but can’t really say no, so you just agree on a toast at the wedding. So now you get off the phone and you start searching on the internet for free wedding speeches.

Get the idea? Research has proven that more people are scared of public speaking than many other fears. Speaking in public can be a very anxious act. You cannot take back what you said and if you say something not appropriate, you’ll get foot “in” mouth disease.

Does it help to research free wedding speeches on the internet? You will come across common tips telling you how to make that perfect speech. You might get a good break and find one that is made already, and you will feel the need print it. Most of these speeches are usually general and not personal at all, and you don’t want to bore your family and friends.

When you are working with speeches it is better to make it simple. Just think of all the memories with friends and you won’t have to rely on the net to get your free wedding speeches.

The wedding toast is a way for you to tell everyone a little about your friends getting married and how special they are for each other and wish them a great life ahead. You don’t need a boring speech that drags on. You just need to think of the great moments and tell how much you care for your great friends.

If you’re still nervous when it comes time for your speech you can use these free wedding speech ideas. They should help you greatly in your time of need.

- Don’t be preachy, rely on your great memories

Too many people give long winded speeches because they want to give advice which is not necessary at this moment. Just let the pastor or marriage counselor take care of that. Stick with the memories. Most of the time people will appreciate the fond memories. Try to use a few highlights of the couples life together, wish them well and then you are finished.

- Go for shorter and more powerful, rather than drawn out and boring

Most people don’t like a speech that is long and uninteresting; you don’t want to tell about all your adventures you had in your childhood. Share those 1 or 2 great memories that will evoke and emotional response and you will be better off.

- Think about writing a Poem

Don’t believe that writing a poem is for weak people because everyone has a different way of looking at things. A wedding can get tense with emotions and everyone is prepared to get a little emotional even to the point of tears and there is really not anything better to evoke this response than a nice little poem.

- Give an introduction they won’t forget

It can be something simple like “Cindy has been my friend since grade school and I have never seen her so in love with any guy other than John” and make a foundation for what you are going to say, since you will be mentioning memories of the couples life. Be honest and don’t try to over do it or you will lose credibility. Try to think if people will get a feeling for your speech even if they don’t really know you.

Father Wedding Speeches – 3 Things That Will Help You Deliver a Great Speech

It’s the big day. You’re little girl is getting married. You’ve got a speech to deliver. Since you’re reading this, I assume that you are looking for help with crafting your speech. Don’t feel embarrassed though – Many people need guidance on how to write a wedding speech. It’s not something that we do every day.

Delivering a great speech is probably one of the biggest things on your mind. You want to make it great, concise, and memorable. Here are 3 simple tips that you can follow to ensure you give a top notch speech on the big day:

# 1 – Write an Outline To Help Build Your Speech

While this may sound obvious, many people forget to do it. Write an outline that you can use to help structure your speech. This will help you realize what you need to focus on and what things you shouldn’t. Crafting this outline will help the overall flow of your speech.

# 2 – Make Your Daughter Proud and Make It About Her and Her New Mate

It’s your daughter’s special day, so make it that way. Craft that speech to touch on the special moments and memories of her life that you share. Let her know that you are proud of her accomplishments. Congratulate her and new new mate, and wish them the best.

#3 – Stand Tall, Speak Clearly, and Project Your Voice

When you deliver your speech, make sure you stand tall and straight. Speak clearly and project your voice, so everyone is able to hear you. There is nothing worse than being unable to hear someone or only hear them partially. This is a very important technique, as you want to be sure that everyone can hear what you have to say.

These are just a few tips that will help you deliver an excellent speech. You can check out more Wedding Speech Tips here.

Are you in a wedding that’s on the way? If you don’t already have a speech prepared, you need to visit Wedding Speeches.
