4 Tips to Creating Killer Wedding Speeches
The inevitable wedding speech. If you play an important role in an upcoming wedding (i.e. best man, bridesmaid, etc.), you will most likely need to give some sort of speech to celebrate the joining of the bride and groom. How do you prepare? What do you say? Questions start flying through your mind as the anxiety and anticipation slowly settles in. Stop the worrying. Wedding speeches are supposed to be fun, not tough.
So, how can you calm yourself down to write a good wedding speech? Here are a few simple tips that you can use for crafting and delivering your speech, so you will be prepared on the big day!
- Create an outline to craft your speech around. This will help lay the foundation for your speech, as well as keep you focused, so you are not staying on the same subject for too long.
- Search the web for funny one-liners, inspirational or funny quotes, and other jokes. Incorporate your own jokes and quotes into your speech as well.
- When delivering your speech, make sure to stand tall and use a clear speaking voice. Be sure to acknowledge your audience by using eye contact. If you are using a microphone (which most of you probably will have), make sure that it isn’t too close to your mouth, or else a muffled sound will result. Also, try not to be too loud or too soft with your voice. Don’t put your hand over the ball of the microphone, as it can impact the sound of your voice.
- Make sure you introduce yourself and speak briefly about your relationship with the bride and groom. This will help everyone understand who you are, so people can follow along with your speech.
Follow these four tips above is just the beginning. If you apply some of these techniques, then you should be well on your way to delivering a killer speech on the big day!
